Boris, Joe Volk - Brighton - 4 December 2012

This is a basement venue with a low stage, so the sound may be a bit muffled.  And unless you were right at the front, it was difficult to actually see very much, so the only photos I have are shots of the empty stage after the show.

Charlemagne Palestine, Oren Ambarchi - Café OTO - 3 April 2012

I had played safe tonight and set the mic to low gain.  Although the performance did get louder, it started out very quietly, just wet fingers on the rims of wine glasses.  It's about 16-17 minutes in before the volume increases noticeably.

BJ Nilsen, Oren Ambarchi, Daniel Menche - Cafe OTO - 2 April 2012

It can be very difficult to anticipate sound levels for electronic music.
And the Zoom H2 mic setting is a rather primitive three-position switch.
For both the Ambarchi and Menche sets, I had to drop the level part way through as things got louder than expected.
I have tried to balance this as best I can in the edit, but you will notice the switch.
If you think you could do a better job, leave a comment or contact me direct and I'll let you have a copy of the source file.

Acid Mothers Temple, Hey Colossus, Corsica Studios, 22 October 2012

Sorry it's been a while since I posted anything here.  There is still plenty in the can.

Most of the titles are "unknown" but please leave a comment if you can add any.  There is some distortion on the louder passages i.e. most of it, but I don't think it's excessive.  I could have stood a bit further back, but being in the thick of it was part of the fun.

The Bitter Cashier

Not the usual sort of thing I usually post here, but expect some entertaining rants:

Oren Ambarchi & John Tilbury, Cafe OTO, 3 September 2012

Oren Ambarchi - guitar, electronics
John Tilbury - piano

This is a somewhat flawed recording.  Based on previous Ambarchi performances, I initially set the mic to low gain.  But here he was keeping the volume at a level compatible with Tilbury's piano.
The performance started VERY quietly and didn't get much louder.  So I successively increased the level to medium then high, unfortunately introducing some mic scraping into the recording.  Recording quiet source material at high gain also captures a lot of unwanted noise.
(Yes I know I should invest in a lavalier mic). Oren Ambarchi and John Tilbury.mp3.rar
(The date was 3 September, but some of the files are mislabelled 5 September.)

It looks like this session now has an official release

Brighton Festival 2012
Scanner and Heritage Orchestra rework Joy Division

This is a prelimary version in glorious 128 kbps.
I'm sure many of you are much more familiar with Joy Division's work than I am.  If you can assist in identifying any of the songs incorporated in this piece, please leave a comment or contact me direct (e-mail address in my profile)

11 August 2012.  Thirty five downloads so far.  Someone must be able to help fill in some of the blanks.  The sooner I have that, the sooner I'll re-up at 320 kbps.

16 August 2012.  Thaks to the Burton Bootlegger, all themes now identified and reuploaded at 320 kpbs.

Phurpa, 9 June 2012

This one is still in the "to edit" pile, but meanwhile grab this while it's hot.  It is a FLAC of the unedited WAV files.  The two should join together smoothly.  I started the recorder running while they were still setting up, so the performance doesn't actually begin until 10-12 minutes in.  This is the Phurpa set only, not Slomo or Colin Potter (but I have those too - watch this space).  As with the Sunn O)))+Nurse with Wound set, I don't think I'll make this one permanently avaialbe as FLAC here, but it may well end up on dimeadozen.  The link expires on 30 June and again, when it's gone, it's gone.

Sunn O))), Nurse with Wound, 12 June 2012

Someone has suggested that the Sunn O))) set begins with Black Wedding then Orthodox Caveman.  I haven't checked this myself yet, but see what you think.

Get 'em while they're hot!  These are FLACs of the unedited WAV files.  I probably won't make these permanently available as FLACs here as they amount to 1.2Gb. But I have passed them on to a couple of associates who may well upload them to dimeadozen one day.  This link expires on 1st July and when it's gone, it's gone.

Referrals seem to have gone through the roof in this one - 800+ in the last week.  OK I'll look at getting the Sunn O))) set up permanently here as a FLAC, but it might take a while as I have a busy week ahead.  If anybody can assist with identifying titles, please do let me know.  Either make a comment here or contact me direct - there is an e-mail link in my profile.

UPDATE 31/07/2015
The Sunn O))) set - along with many other of their live shows - is now available for download here:

The Nurse with Wound set is now dead. I'll look to re-up as time permits. Now re-upped:
Now added FLAC version

ATP, 25 May 2012

I know it's been a while since I posted anything here. As I've said, a combination of lots of gigs recently and too many other things to do. But I'm back with a six pack. I got almost all of it. Just missed part of the first songs by Wolves in the Throne Room and Sleep as I crossed from one stage to another. Listed in order of appearance.

In the pipeline...

There have been quite a few good gigs lately and loads more coming up.  So I am collecting recordings faster than I can process them.  This is what is in the pipeline at the moment.  I'll update the list as I go.  Please be patient and call back.

6 April - Sven Ake Johansson, Caspar Brotzmann
9 April - Michael Hurley, Josephine Foster
19 April - Cam Deas, Antonie Chessex, Barn Owl

12 May - Damo Suzuki with Bo Ningejn, Umez
14 May - Dylan Carlson, Undersmile
18 May - Live_Transmission (Scanner and Heritage Orchestra)

And it goes on:

Shinji Masuko, Kanata, YPY, 12 February 2012

All three sets in total were just over an hour so I have uploaded them together.

I have a few rather dark photos that I'll try and upload later.  Meanwhile, there are some better pics than mine on Flickr.  Seek and ye shall find.

I haven't been able to find much about Kanata or YPY.  If you can ad anything, please leave a comment.

B.B. King, Dr. John and the Crescent City Cadenzas, Royal Festival Hall, London, 17 July 1990

JVC Capital Radio Jazz Parade
Early show - 6:30 p.m.

Dr. John and the Crescent City Cadenzas

B.B. King

Text with personnel and track listing included with files.

This is not my recording, but was made by a friend of a friend.  This is one of several B.B. King London shows (I do not have recordings of the others) where there were two performances in one evening.  I know the old showbiz saying "always leave them wanting more".  But B.B. King's set was just under an hour, which left me feeling short-changed.

Leonard Barras - I think this really is the complete archive now

Hold the front page of the Wallsend Weekly Buffoon!

Up the Tyne in a Flummox

Public Exposures
A Poultice for a Poet
A Fearful Conflagration
An Elderly Frame
The Finger in the Filing Cabinet

Flummoxed Four Times

This is the order in which the stories are given on the BBC cassette.  I stand to be corrected about whether or not this is also the order in which they were broadcast.  I'm guessing it was a series of four broadcasts with two stories per episode.

Just About Everybody Out
Speed Bonny Greengrocers Horse
It Was Possibly Watling Street
What Day It Was
The Millenium Minus A Bit
Under Canvas With Trapezium
Several Extra Marital Relations
What Charm Can Soothe

Stories 3, 4, 5 & 6 were posted here earlier.  Here are episodes 1, 2, 7 & 8.

UPDATE. Dead download links removed. Please see post of 16 June 2015 for a complete set of recordings.

12 November 2017 links re-upped

Now in lossless format...

Having finally got my head around FLAC files, I shall from now on also be offering Phil's bootlegs in lossless format.  I won't promise when I shall revisit the material already posted here.  I have my work cut out just keeping up with current gigs plus an archive of recordings yet to be processed.  But the B.B. King session from 2009 is now also available as FLAC.

Also, thanks to Bill Radcliffe for supplying the missing sentence and Bruce Goatly for re-editing, this includes the complete version of Sideways a Bit

All Barras devotees out there please keep watching this space.  More recordings are coming in and - dare I say it -  I think the gaps in the archive will soon be closed.
